NJCaptions

Jennifer M. Bonfilio, CRR, RMR, CBC, President of NJCaptions, began her captioning career after working as a court reporter for 16 years. She started out as a realtime captioner for a deaf student attending Princeton University from 1994-1999. Jennifer is a self-taught realtime writer.

In 1999 Jennifer sold her house, packed her bags, and set off for Pittsburgh to train as an in-house broadcast captioner at one of the largest captioning companies in the United States. Two years later, she moved back to her home state of New Jersey, where she has set up an office and captions on a freelance basis remotely.

In August 2004 Jennifer had the honor of captioning the
2004 Summer Olympics in Prime Time on NBC, including the Opening Ceremonies, Gymnastics, Swimming, Diving, Track & Field, Beach Volleyball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Rowing, Tennis, and Cycling.

The challenges continue to present themselves.  Jennifer recently added the
Scripps National Spelling Bee to her resume.  In June of 2006, the Spelling Bee aired on ABC in Prime Time for the first time ever, and a fellow Jerseyite won the top honors!

In addition to her busy programming schedule, Jennifer has presented seminars on Realtime, CART, and Broadcast Captioning for the last several years. She has also written a series of articles for her state's court reporting newsletter, NCRA's Captioning Corner, as well as a variety of newsletters and magazines related to the field of court reporting and captioning.

Jennifer has also taken on dozens of captioning trainees, assisting them in their journey from court reporter to broadcast captioner. She is the co-founder and moderator of the Broadcast Captioners group on Yahoo! and continues to serve on NCRA's Captioning Community of Interest.  In addition, Jennifer is a certified Eclipse AccuCap trainer and works with captioners to give them a better understanding of their software by providing individual and group training sessions.

In addition to remote CART and captioning, Jennifer continues to provide CART for local clients on-site.

When she's not working, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her life partner, her two pugs, and her cat.  She loves biking, yoga, racquetball, and lazy summer days on the beach.
In her tenth year as a broadcast captioner, Jennifer currently captions a wide variety of programming on a regular basis, including Dr. Phil, WPVI Action News, and a number of sporting events on ESPN, CBS, ABC & NBC.
